Stamping Scheme

The stamping scheme idea was first introduced on the C2C route in northern England. The scheme was started not only to give cyclists a fun way to record their journeys but also to encourage local participation with the National Cycle Network and to benefit local businesses. The scheme is run on a voluntary basis but the traders involved, such as  whose shops, stores, and cafes can benefit as cyclists often purchase something from them as well as getting their cards stamped.

The way it works is there are a number of accredited stamping points along a route and the stamping card purchased from Sustrans (30 pence) has space to collect 6 stamps along the route. - one from each end of a route and any four in between. If you get a full set of stamps then you qualify for an exclusive, commemorative t-shirt especially designed for each national route.

After cycling the route and getting your card stamped along the way, you send the card to to Sustrans. There is more information on the cards which can be purchased from Sustrans before you go or from stamping points en-route. Stamping points do change now and again and the Sustrans website has a downloadable list of current stamping points.

The Mileage Award Scheme additionally offers cyclists special awards for those who have cycled 500, 1,000 and 2,000 miles on the network, using a combination of different completed routes. The awards are free and can be claimed by providing your stamped cards as evidence of your achievement. Call the Sustrans Information Office on 0117 929 0888 for further details.
