Over 250 miles long, the West Country Way links the Cornish Coast with the cities of Bristol and Bath, and the route interlinks with both the Devon C2C and the Severn & Thames routes. The route climbs onto Bodmin Moor and then hits the commanding heights of Exmoor and the Mendip Hills, before meeting the strange solitude of the Somerset Levels and the valley rivers of Devon. The route winds through Cornwall, Devon, Somerset and Avon, using the Camel and Tarka Trails, the Bridgwater and Taunton canals, and former railway lines, to visit towns such as Barnstaple, Tiverton, Taunton, Glastonbury, Wells, Bristol and Bath. This landscape is challenging and extremely varied, but it lends an intimacy ideal for cycling as it carries you through some of England's finest countryside. The official maps of the route, based on Ordnance Survey data, are available from Sustrans, book and cycle shops. |
