The Minden Parade

Minden Day celebrations are held annually in Berwick to commemorate the Battle of Minden in North Germany in 1759 which took place during the Seven Years' War. 41,000 British and German troops lined up against 51,000 French and Saxons and among the British forces was the 25th Foot Regiment who still proudly parade through Berwick every late July or early August day.

The parades are held in memory of those who earned this battle honour and roses are presented to honour those who fought in the 1759 battle who plucked roses from the gardens of Minden as they went into action.

After the battle itself ensued, the 25th Foot Regiment was one of six regiments awarded the town of Minden and the parade also recognise veterans from the later wars - the Second World War, those who saw action in Korea, Aden, Borneo and other engagements join serving soldiers on the parade ground at the barracks in Berwick.
