The Devon Coast to Coast cycle ride bridges the English Channel and the Atlantic Ocean. You can start the route in the north of Devon (Ilfracombe) or the south (Plymouth), although the Sustrans map directs you from Ilfracombe to Plymouth.

Whichever direction, the route crosses Devon and meets the Plym Valley Trail and the ever popular Tarka Trail, touches the western edge of Dartmoor, and ambles along quiet lanes and rolling countryside.

Largely tracing the course of former railway lines, you cycle through tunnels and across breathtaking viaducts and bridges bequeathed by Victorian railway engineers. It combines the beaches and estuaries of North Devon with the lush green valleys of the Torridge, the Tavy, the Walkham and other evocative West Country rivers.

Whether finishing at Plymouth's famous docks and harbours or the holiday resort of Ilfracombe, this 100 mile ride offers cyclists a flavour of Devon with its array of unique natural beauty between the two coastlines.

The official maps of the route, based on Ordnance Survey data, are available from Sustrans, book and cycle shops.
