Past Lymm, the Trail continues along the disused railway lines with old station houses and this track lasts for miles and has an excellent surface. Here, freight trains outlasted passenger services by 20 years but stopped in the 1980's when much of the export of coal for the docks on the Mersey was moved to Nottingham and Derby. In 1985 the last train passed by at 07:08 on the 7th of July.
