Resting by St Helens Canal, a six mile section past marshland - the River Mersey is actually right alongside but out of sight and hidden. The land between here and the river is covered by salt water at very high tides and all that can grow are certain grasses and other plants that can survive the mixture of fresh water and sea water so the trees and hedges survive as they are just above the high water mark.
