There's no disguising the heavy industry of Teesside in the sections between Middlesbrough and Hartlepool but cyclists take advantage of the regeneration of the area along the two mile promenade linking Seaton Carew to Hartlepool Marina and it's tall ship at Hartlepool Marina.
From this point the trip to Middlesborough marks the southern point of the route as it reaches the town's railway station. The Transporter Bridge lies less than a mile from the cycle route so be sure to find it - many local authorities have long ago decommissioned such loss making ventures but the Transporter Bridge carries on while providing access for more 21st century leisure pursuits. It's a real landmark for Middlesborough and Teesside and a rare piece of living history.
