A few miles north of Hartlepool, the cycle route leaves the railway track and heads into the town through housing estates using safe roadside cycle paths before touching the coast at Hartlepool's Marina. The cycle route also passes a mile north of Hartlepool's headland point and by some disused industrial heritage, the Magnesite Works.
If you want to explore the old Magnesite Works and capture a piece of history before it disappears for ever then there's a footpath and right of way for pedestrians and cyclists under the bridge. You can rejoin the cycle route a few hundred metres further on.
