Blacksmith's Needle.
There is possibly sculpture fatigue in the north-east of England but this beautifully intricate silver artwork deserves its place centre stage on Newcastle's Quayside. The 1990's saw the transformation of the Quayside with a riverside promenade and much public art. The Blacksmith's Needle's tower of metalwork was created from six diffferent sections made at public forge-ins around the country and each section represents one of the senses - including 'the mysterious sixth sense'. The passing family game is to list as many objects as possible. The clue. They are predominantly maritime.
