10 miles from Derby and it's a warm welcome to the Pennine Cycleway from some really happy bags. Day one from Derby is a fairly easy climb to Buxton despite it being England's highest market town and 45 miles from Derby. The ride up to Buxton is made comfortable by using miles of sleeping railway trackbeds, with none of the sudden dips and climbs in and out of the valleys which are to feature so often during the next few days of the route.
