Leaving Buxton, the route soon finds a narrow, gated road before it descends to Buxworth Canal Basin, the first of the route's canals and a chance to cycle along flat terrain. Much of the cycle route is remote and unspoilt like this, with moorland ridges a constant companion. If you need to get away from traffic-jams and city life then this is a route on which to escape.
