Buxworth Canal Basin.
Something's wrong. Either the canal and these muddy waters shouldn't be here or we've misread the map. Still, it's all part of the fun, getting lost, finding the route, missing a sign, straying and finding the route again. Local authority signing policies often seem inconsistent, with some exemplary in their signposting whilst the next local council just doesn't seem to bother at all. Good signing is reassuring.
But this is a new route, and as always, you should take the official route map with you. Use the maps as guides but expect to get a little lost on occasions. The maps produced by Sustrans are excellent but signs can become twisted, particularly through the towns.
