Made it. And with only 2 hours of rain through this 8 day Pennine journey the mountains and skies had been kind. As to the climbs, they come in the first half of the route, and it may be useful to consider this in the route's planning.
It's probably fair to say that due to its length of 350 miles (twice the length of the C2C cycle route) and the constant companionship of the Pennines, the route is one of the most challenging of the National Cycle Network's long distance signposted routes. The flat canal towpaths, old railwaybeds and winding country roads provide respite for the few harsh climbs, it's well signposted overall, and it's all there to be cycled and really not to be missed.
