Westfield Pill Nature Reserve.
The Nature Reserve lies along Cleddau Waterway which forms a sheltered inlet from the estuary at Pembroke Dock and is important as a sanctuary for wildlife and in particular birds during poor weather and occasional oil pollution incidents.
Westfield Pill was once tidal but during the late 1980’s two bunds were created at the southern end of the Pill to impound slurry originating from the construction of Neyland Marina which the cycle route has just passed. This resulted in the formation of a permanent fresh waterbody, although at high tides salt water occasionally spills over into the Pill.
The disused railway track alongside the waterway provides easy cycling away from Pembroke and on to the next town, Johnston.
