'The signed route to Strathaven follows Route 1 of the East Kilbride Cycle Network from the town centre to Newlands Road, on the south west of the town.

Generally cycling south and east it follows a number of unclassified roads en route to Strathaven and, back again, through Auldhouse to East Kilbride.

The route generally consists of flat stretches of road with farmland on both sides, except for the areas before and after Whitelee Forest. This is the most strenuous part of the route but that is balanced by the views offered from the summit. Although this may suggest that the route is advisable only to experienced cyclists, an alternative is also suggested.'
