'You can cycle the relatively flat route from Troon through Prestwick and to the south of Ayr, taking in some excellent coastal scenery. Continuing south leads the cyclist into the more rural element of Ayrhire Cycling. You will be rewarded with exceptional coastal views; the steep cycle to the top of the Carrick Hills is worth all the effort.

The harbour at Girvan is worth a visit, and you could catch up on the local history of Maybole. Both Straiton and Barr are conservation heritage villages that provide an excellent insight as to how Ayrshire villages would have looked many years ago.'
