Staying longer ... ...
While cycling a long distance route or just planning your own journey through the UK you can do worse than spend a few extra days to explore an area more closely.
Shorter, local cycle routes such as Cycling in Shetland, On Your Bike in Surrey and Lincolnshire can fit neatly into a long distance route and offer a brief respite and a rest on the routes with steep valley hillsides. Many of the maps are downloadable too and long distance cyclists can take advantage of these local cycle maps.
On this section we've also tried to include a small selection of other cycle links aimed at promoting town cycling and shorter safe family forest routes - local authorities in the UK and organisations such as the Forestry Commission produce many maps to encourage cycling whether on a long distance trail or just getting to work on time.
