'The Timberland
Trail is a recreational route for walkers, cyclists and horse
riders linking the villages of Elsecar and Wortley. You can walk or ride
the Trail and use it to access the wider network of footpaths and
bridleways within the south Yorkshire Forest and further afield. 'The
Timberland Trail passes through a variety of landscapes. It takes in
historical villages, estate parklands, reclaimed collieries and ancient
forests. The area was once a major centre for for coal and ancient
forests, wire drawing and nail making. Look out for evidence of the
area's rich industrial history.' Along
